Liner Notes from Good Night Christmas
A note from the producer.
It is exciting to present to you Good Night Christmas, comprised of all five pieces from the original album, Ethereal Christmas, plus eight new pieces!! I promised friends and family to have a new album finished this year, but didnít have all the means to produce my very best. When I saw that it was not going to be completed by the deadline and that Ethereal Christmas was sold out, I decided to re-release a Christmas album and put my energy toward a full compilation of my favorite Christmas songs. They are all mellow sleepy songs you can say "goodnight" to all year round. I hope it brings joy to all who listen, and also to those who will benefit from the funds it will raise. May it bring you peace and solace, may it fill your soul with a remembrance of our Savior, Jesus the Christ. "Oh, may His peace rest on thee.?
Good Night Christmas Lyrics
Walking In the Air
We're walking in the air,
We're floating in the moonlit sky:
The people far below are sleeping as we fly.
I'm holding very tight,
I'm riding in the midnight blue;
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you.
On across the world,
The villages go by like dreams,
The rivers and the hills, the forests and the streams.
Children gaze openmouthed, taken by surprise;
Nobody down below believes their eyes.
We're surfing in the air,
We're swimming in the frozen sky;
We're drifting over icy mountains floating by.
Suddenly, swooping low on an ocean deep,
Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep;
We're walking in the air, We're dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly.
Christmas Lullaby
On midnight eve, first Christmas day,
The Bethlehem stable, the manger of hay.
What do they say the animals say,
On midnight eve, first Christmas day?
The shepherd's dog speaks of a quiet night,
Crowned with hosannas, the stars clear light,
And how this child will shepherd all,
With cross and crown and staff of light.
And the cattle are lowing a song of love,
His song of redeeming love.
They warm the babe and lullaby,
His song of redeeming love.
King's camels proud are kneeling low
To reverence the King of their Kings with a bow.
The ache they feel, their journeys pain,
How small to His, this baby king.
Chorus
Small burro whispers he carried a queen.
But she has born the Savior King.
Mary's pain and Joseph's praise
This mother and father the child will raise.
Chorus
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Jesu, joy of man's desiring
Holy wisdom, love most bright
Repeated
Son of God, our flesh hath fashioned
With the glow of faith impassioned
For our sins thou hast atoned,
Lord and Savior, now enthroned.
Still, Still, Still
Still, still, still, one can hear the falling snow.
For all is hushed, the world is sleeping,
Holy star its vigil keeping.
Still, still, still, one can hear the falling snow.
Sleep, sleep, sleep, tis the eve of out Savior's birth.
The night is peaceful all around you,
Close your eyes let sleep surround you.
Sleep, sleep, sleep, tis the eve of our Savior's birth.
Dream, dream, dream, of the joyous day to come.
While guardian angels without number,
Guard you as you sweetly slumber.
Dream, dream, dream, of the joyous day to come.
O Holy Night
Oh holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh holy night
Oh night divine
Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here came the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend.
He knows our needs, to our weakness He's no stranger.
Behold, your king before the lowly bend.
Behold, your King, your king, before Him bend.
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord, oh praise His name forever.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
Mary's Lullaby
All mine in your loveliness baby, all mine.
All mine in your holiness baby divine.
Sing on herald angels in chorus sublime;
Sing on and adore, for tonight you are mine.
The wise men are coming to worship their King,
The shepherds are kneeling their homage to bring.
Out yonder the star over Judah will keep.
No harm will befall thee, then sleep baby sleep.
O let me enfold thee, my baby tonight,
While legions are singing in joyous delight.
A new star has risen to hail thee divine,
For you are a king, but tonight you are mine.
Away spectered future of sorrow and plight,
Away to the years that must follow tonight.
The pangs of Gethsemane, let them be dim,
The red drops on Calvary, not Lord, for Him!
O let me enfold thee, my baby tonight,
While legions are singing in joyous delight.
A new star has risen to hail thee divine,
For you are a king, but tonight you are mine.
Sing on herald angels in chorus sublime;
Sing on and adore, for tonight you are mine.
Ave Maria
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus, tecum,
benedicta tu in mulieribus
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus.
Sancta Maria, sancta Maria,
Maria, ora pro nobis nobus peccatoribus,
nuncet in hora, in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen! Amen!
Translation--
Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
He Shall Be born
He shall be born, He shall be born
He shall be born of Mary at Jerusalem.
She, a chosen vessel, she, a precious one,
Overshadowed, she'll conceive and bear a Son.
He shall suffer, He shall know our pain,
He shall be born and die and live again!
He shall come to earth, Yea, the Son of God,
Born of Mary, at Jerusalem.
He shall be born, He shall be born
He shall be born of Mary at Jerusalem.
He shall come to earth, yea, the Son of God!
O may his peace rest on thee,
This time forth and forever.
He shall be born,
O may his peace rest on thee.
Saint Stephen's Day
Come, child with me, we're off to the attic
To find old Christmas, where last year we packed it.
It's up the ladder, just under the roof,
Where lands the sleigh and reindeer hoof.
Smell dust and boxes--cedar and pine
Like camels and desert--myrrh and wine.
Hear shepherd and angel--oh crimson elf,
And evergreen garland, for the mantelshelf.
Be gentle, the Family, swaddled in wool--
Shhh....the crèche....silent as snow.
And the drum and jingle, and the trumpet blast,
All purple in velvet, the shining brass.
Come the day after Christmas is Saint Stephen's Day.
Then you and I shall put Christmas away.
We'll box the tinsel and pull down the tree,
Then it's off to the attic with you and me.
But we'll keep in out hearts His healing wing--
We'll comfort and cheer, His song to sing.
For Christmas must never be put away,
All boxed and silent for a year and a day.
This Christmastide
Green and silver, red and gold and a story born of old,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
Holly, ivy, mistletoe and the gently falling snow,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
From a simple ox's stall came the greatest gift of all,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
Children sing of hope and joy at the birth of one small boy,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
Let the bells ring loud and clear, ring out now, for all to hear,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
Trumpets sound and voices raise in an endless stream of praise,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
Green and silver, red and gold and a story born of old,
Truth and love and hope abide, this Christmastide.
Come Unto Him
Come unto Him, all ye that labor.
Come unto him, ye that are heave laden,
And He will give you rest.
Take His yolk upon you and learn of him,
For He is meek and lowly of heart,
And ye shall find rest unto your souls.
The Angels' Silent Night
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Silent night, holy night
All is calm all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.
